Electronic component suppliers today face a key design challenge that can be boiled down to one question: How do you make your next product do things it's never had to do before?

Eleven speakers will discuss topics ranging from 5G to Internet of Things to the cloud. The symposium is presented by Mouser Electronics, TTI, Connected Development, RfMW, and Symmetry Electronics.

Michael Knight, TTI Semiconductor Group president and senior vice president of corporate business development, will be the keynote speaker and kick off the symposium June 10. (Click here to register.) His topic will be "Connecting the World with Wireless Technology." His talk will focus on various wireless communication technologies, use cases for each, and their place in the IoT and cloud computing ecosystem. Knight has spent more than 30 years working in all facets of the electronic component supply chain.

“When I started my career in the electronics component industry in the mid-1980s, electronic communication was very straightforward,” Knight said. “There were two flavors: datacom and telecom. And both used copper wire to create 100 percent of the connections. Today, it is quite a bit more complicated, and as a result, can be very confusing.”

Sensors for IoT: Beyond the Type (11 a.m., all times, US Central): John Tuley and Terry Merlihan of TE Connectivity will discuss how sensor technologies used in industrial, personal, and medical applications. Tuley is an IoT business development manager and Merlihan is director of sales and business development.

Selecting the Right Wireless Technology for IoT Applications (noon): Tim Cutler, Murata Electronics senior business development manager, will look at the relevant characteristics of Cat M1 cellular, LoRa, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth^® to compare and contrast the technologies.

Industry Insight: Sensors as an Enabler of IoT (1 p.m.): Martin Murray, Honeywell application engineer, will discuss sensors as an enabler of IoT and what factors are affecting design decisions.

MIMO Techniques and Antenna Diversity: The Keys to Improve Wireless Performance (1:45 p.m.): Dr. Anitha Govind, Abracon engineering manager, will discuss various multiple input multiple output (MIMO) techniques and antenna diversity in wireless communication systems.

The Path to 5G: Not If or When, but How Much and How Fast! (10 a.m.): Suma Kapilavai, Qorvo product line manager, will discuss the 5G eco-system and how Qorvo is playing a big part in enabling this technology.

Enabling Energy Efficient 5G Base Stations (11 a.m.): John Gajadharsing, Ampleon vice president of application and portfolio, will provide a detailed view on how LDMOS (laterally-diffused metal-oxide semiconductor) and GaN (gallium nitride) fit into the 5G market.

LoRaWAN LPWAN–Connecting IoT Sensors and Devices to The Cloud (noon): Gil Simsic and Loren Geilen, Semtech applications engineers, will cover topics related to the LoRaWAN^® network and the IoT cloud as well as LoRa Ecosystem products and applications.

Industry Insight: Connected Development (1 p.m.): Gregor Bleimann, Connected Development vice president and general manager, will provide an overview of his company’s engineering services and capabilities, including hardware, software, RD design, and certification areas.
